Ingredients:
12 (2 oz.) glass or plastic shot glasses
Betty Crocker vanilla ready to spread frosting for rims
purple, yellow and green sugar sprinkles for rims
1 3/4 cup prepared lemonade
4 envelopes plain gelatin
1 1/4 cups cake-flavored vodka
2 tsp sweetened condensed milk (up to 4 Tbsp can be used to sweeten to taste)
3 bowls (one for each color)
liquid food coloring (regular green, regular yellow and neon purple)
silver edible glitter for between gelatin layers (optional)
1 Gushers candy (optional*)
Preparation:
1. Dip the rim of each shot glass into the vanilla frosting, then dip 1/3 of the rim into purple sugar sprinkles, 1/3 into yellow sugar sprinkles and 1/3 into green sugar sprinkles as pictured. Set glasses aside.
2. Pour lemonade into a small saucepan and sprinkle with gelatin. Allow to soak for a minute or two. Heat over low, stirring constantly, until the gelatin is dissolved (about 5 minutes). Remove from the heat, stir in cake vodka and sweetened condensed milk.
3. Divide gelatin mixture between 3 bowls (about 1 cup in each bowl). Use liquid food coloring to color each. FOR PURPLE: 4 drops of NEON purple. FOR YELLOW: 4 drops of regular yellow. FOR GREEN: 4 drops of regular green.
4. Use a food baster or tablespoon to add about 1 Tbsp of the purple gelatin to each of the shot glasses. Refrigerate until set but still sticky when touched, about 20 minutes.
5. Remove glasses from fridge and sprinkle 1 tsp of silver edible glitter over purple gelatin. Tap gently to even out. Then carefully spoon or squirt about 1 Tbsp of yellow gelatin into each glass. Refrigerate until set but still sticky, about 20 minutes. *ABOUT THE GUSHERS CANDY: If you want to hide a surprise in one of the shot glasses (in King Cake tradition), drop one Gusher into ONLY ONE of the shot glasses after pouring the yellow gelatin. Refrigerate with the others until the yellow layer is set but still sticky, about 20 minutes.
6. Remove glasses from fridge and sprinkle 1 tsp of silver edible glitter over the yellow gelatin. Tap gently to even out. Then carefully spoon or squirt about 1 Tbsp of green gelatin into each glass. Refrigerate at least 2 hours or overnight until fully set.
7. Garnish with sweetened whipped cream and sugar sprinkles, if desired, and serve with small spoons. (Or, if using plastic shot glasses, you can squeeze the shots out of the glasses -- bottoms up!)
